Traveling around Ecuador

It has been three weeks since our visit to Ecuador and life is back to normal. So as I promised, here are some photos from our trip...enjoy!

Right after Juan´s arrival to Ecuador, we took a trip to Baños to see an active volcano, Tungurahua. Mother Nature is so beautiful but as you know, can be very destructive. In 2006, Tungurahua destroyed a whole town. We were able to stand where the town was and watch Tungurahua still throw ashes. This photo shows a home that was destroyed by the volcano.

Shopping in Baños. These photos were taken outside our hostel in Baños.

Lore, Andres, Juan and I went on a tour. We rode on a "chiva" all around Baños. We had a blast!

We went to a zoo where we saw lots of exotic animals.

We decided to be adventurous and do the canopy...what a great experience.Juan had a little trouble. If anyone is wondering…I'll let him tell you.

After Baños, we went to El Puyo. This province is in the rainforest where we stayed at a beautiful resort. While we were there, the Miss Ecuador contestants were staying there as well. One evening, the resort put on a show for the contestants of the Native people who still live in the rainforest.
The Native people with the contestants. Some of the contestants were asking to take pictures with our Sofia because they thought she was so beautiful...yes I'm bragging!

We visited the rainforest and got to see some amazing animals.

This is the bridge we had to cross to get to the resort.

Back in Quito, we visted the middle of the world.

I love this photo..we are all standing on the equator.

GO LIGA!!! This team was Juan's first love.

All the family....

Juan's grandparents. They are so sweet.
Tia Lore and Sofia. We love and miss you Lore! This photo breaks my heart. Rosa and Washo were so sad to see Sofia leave..a lot of tears were shed when we left.

Photos of Ecuador

Sofia and I are in week 2 of our long stay in Ecuador and we are loving every minute. Juan will arrive this Saturday...we have really missed our guy! We are planning a trip to the rain forest the Sunday after he arrives so I´m excited to share some photos of that adventure but until then here are a few that I have taken the past few days...Enjoy.

These are just some photos I took of the city. Juan´s parents building is very close to where these photos were taken.

Sofia´s cousins- Gaby, Sofia, Nico, Esteban Andres and David

This photo is a little dark but I wanted to show you our wild Sofia walking...I mean running. I can´t keep up with her...maybe it´s the altitude :)

I love this photo. Sofia has her cousin Nico´s pajamas on and her Ita Ena put a scrunchy in her hair...too cute.

Sofia hanging out with her cousins.

Day 5 in Ecuador

Sofia and I left for Ecuador on Monday for a month long stay. It has been so nice and Sofia is getting so much attention and I´m getting to sleep in :) We have been eating a tone and enjoying all of it. The food here is all natural...no preservatives so all we do is eat! Oh...and Sofia is walking a lot. After seeing her cousins run all over she decided that she didn´t want to be left out. I love seeing her with her family here...everyone just loves her and she is loving them. I will post some pictures soon so that you can see this beautiful country.

Here are some neat facts about Quito, Ecuador:
-Ecuador is split by the equator; the line passes just to the north of the capital city of Quito.
-The elevation of the city is 2,850 m (about 9,350 ft), making Quito the second-highest administrative capital city in the world.
-Ecuador has numerous volcanos; one of them, if mesaured from the center of the earth, would be even higher than Mt. Everest! (On a clear day, I can actually see some volcanoes from Juan´s parents home)
-Quito, known as “the eternal spring, is said to have the best weather in the world.
